Manufacture de papier
Le Perche, France
« Manufacture de papier" manufactures and creates furniture and decorative objects from paper pulp. This complex material, so rich in possibilities, stimulates a new approach to form.
Guy Doat, founder of “Manufacture de Papier”, is a graduate of Penninghen, a renowned Parisian school of applied arts. An interior architect and designer he’s inventor of numerous developed patents too. He is passionate about furniture, creation and sculpture. In the course of his research, he discovered the work of the ADT, famous in the 19th century for its decorative objects and furniture. Once he had studied the old recipes, he adapted them to today's materials, while taking an environmentally-friendly approach:
- Paper, his raw material, comes from the recycling of old books.
- The water used is recycled.
- Drying is by air contact only. The result is zero CO2 emissions.
So his creations are entirely clean and sustainable. Time, on the other hand, is deliciously... long. In this age of immediacy, working with paper pulp imposes a distended working time, good for reflection and creativity. This complex material open to other forms of possibility. Almost incompatible with a mass production, each model remains unique and singular.
